YOU'VE GOT TO HAVE MOXIE

You are looking at Moxie, the latest addition to my extended family of pets. He’s faster than you think, faster than myself. I’ve always been the type of person that’s slow to react to given situations whether it be dealing with a manipulative coworker, throwing an inmate out of my classroom, or changing this blog to the beta version. I guess we’re all creatures of habit, trying to stay within our comfort zones. For the most part, I don’t like change.

The crazy loon I dealt with on Wednesday prior to my going home in frustration and anger signed his retirement papers that day. He should’ve never been allowed to work for the Michigan Department of Corrections for twelve years. His personnel records may be larger than some of the inmates’ criminal files. Come mid January he’ll be able to substitute teach in a public school (I cringe at the thought of it). At least this is a good change for me. Knowing there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, I’ll try to tough it out.

As for inmate stupidity, I had to answer a questionnaire regarding Prisoner Otto's whereabouts for the three days he did not attend my class. According to the Hearing Investigation Report the prisoner says he attended class and he would like the security cameras checked. I had to provide a written statement in regards to the following: Is it possible that this prisoner was in your class on 12/07/06 and missed being counted? Explain why or why not. No. Mr. Otto did not attend my class on the day in question. He was informed prior to this date that he must attend my class regularly. Also, on 12/11/06 and 12/12/06, he did not attend. School Officer Triplet discovered him in another classroom. "Out of Place / AWOL" tickets were written. (I jokingly told the Hearing Investigator that perhaps they could check the security camera in regards to my latest incident with the crazy coworker; she told me she only handles inmate situations.)

Lastly, this beta blogger switch has me puzzled. Did I miss a window of opportunity? In an attempt to convert, I’m told that I can not make the necessary change. Why is that? Do I have too many post? I don’t think so. I could start a new blog instead. I feel lost in the blogosphere. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

I have a close friend who teaches in a correctional facility for women here in Michigan. I remember when he started, he urged me to try and get a job teaching in a correctional facility as well. I knew that if I did, I would have to work with the men. Having seen too many women in prison films, I knew I would be fired in a week. My friend once started describing his work experience to me and I said: "No..no..don't. As far as I'm concerned you go to work in a smoking jacket and as you walk down the corridor, the women, all beautiful and clad in teddys, make lewd and lascivious sounds in your direction. Don't tell me anything to shatter that fantasy."

I stayed with the public school system..now I'm wishing I had gotten out and sold insurance.

JR, okay, just exactly what is that little creature in the photo? I recognize an eye and a foot. Is it some sort of gekko? Very colorful. Is he cuddly...? :-)

I don't know what's going on with Blogger and with Beta in particular. They seem to have created two separate entities that are unable to talk to each other, and I don't know why. It seems to have a lot of problems, and I have not been able to post on many blogs too. Well, I guess as long as it's free, they can call the shots.

Jim, Finally the old hag will soon be gone and you will have a wonderful 2007 year. Sorry, I don't know anything about the new Beta Blog version, otherwise I would help you. Nice looking turtle added to your collection of pets. It sounds like you will wait on the dog. --Bro, Ron

Nice turtle JR. He will enjoy your pond if that is where he might be living this summer. Great pic. MW

Hey Jim,
I don't know why you can't switch, unless like you said, maybe you have too many postings. I'd contact them through the blogger help menu. Maybe they even have suggestions there for switching, too.

Hmm... I wonder why you can't switch. There was a link available on my screen asking me to switch over and I did it.

Congrats on getting rid of that coworker.

Jim, I just made the switch in a minimal way. You need to create a free GMail account first if you don't have one. Google wants to take over the world, I guess :->

I was able to do the initial step without any changes to the look (yet). I know nothing about the labels, etc., yet. Good luck! (The profile count is more responsive, clicking everytime it goes up instead of waiting to go up in increments of 19-21 -- which is cool) Plus it's easier to make comments on other blogspots.

Nice turtle. Sorry I don't have any info on switching over. I'm just getting used to this stuff here.

Nice turtle. :)

It took me a while to decide to do it, but I switched to Beta some weeks ago and have only really had trouble with posting comments. Then again, everybody has, so I'm sure that it'll eventually be ironed out. I've really liked it otherwise... none of that irksome republishing and way better post management.

As for the process, I didn't have to get a GMail account, but just used an existing Yahoo account to create my Google account. I doubt that the trouble is with having too many posts... many bloggers who have been blogging for a long time have made the switch.

I'm sure that they'll let you go over sometime because they'll want everyone on Beta in the end.

Good luck!

I'm with you on the beta-blogger... I find it nothing more than a nuisance.

Cool turtle and a great picture. We have a terrible time trying to get a good shot of my daughters 'painted turtle - Neville'... He's so excited when we come near the tank that we can't get him to hold still for the camera.

Well, I have no suggestions on the whole blogger issue.

I switched awhile ago and it was frustrating but I have settled back into a routine after the initial shock. Good Luck (-:
