DECORATIVE DRIFTWOOD

The following numbers are for a work in progress, a flash fiction piece titled, “Getting out From Under a Rock”:

Readability Statistics:

Words – 100
Paragraphs – 9
Sentences – 11
Passive Sentences – 0%
Flesch Reading Ease – 68.0%
Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level - 6.1

I’m sending my prose to the Driftwood, formerly known as The Driftwood Review. They’re looking for 100-word stories for an upcoming “Earth” themed issue. Twenty pieces will be chosen and you must be from Michigan.

Heck, I’m from Michigan. Do you think a scenario involving an undercover convict trying to get his cellmate to mention where he buried the bodies, qualifies as “Earth” themed? I hope so.

I think the theme is outside the box sure enough. I have been thinking along less traditional lines myself there Jim. *shrug* ya never knows what is going to work on any given day.

I would say the theme of "earth" encompasses everything.
Best of luck!

I wish you the best of the lucks, think that at least you have the exact statistics of the material you are sending, so you have a certain control

Well if they buried 'em it's earth themed. It also involves the theme of recycling, of returning to Gaea what is Gaea's, and of birth, death and rebirth, and if he didn't use a coffin then its considerate because it would speed the recycling.

Charles beat me to it. The bodies are buried in earth, aren't they?

I'll be in Michigan August 2010. Does that count? Probably not.

Me and Barnsley Sime aka The Cappy Kid from http://ttpv.wordpress.com are coming out to Ann Arbor.

I'll let you know the dates. We'll be in O'Neills bar (probably for three weeks) er...not necessarily in the bar for 3 weeks...

Where do you locate this stuff, JR? I'd never heard about it but I'm really glad you posted on this topic. Thanks. I've been so busy working for the last few weeks that writing something seems suddenly attractive.

Haha -- that's cool. Excellent -- good luck, dude! Sounds like pay dirt to me . . .

"Dirt digging in the dirt" seems earth themed to me. Good luck. MW

Sometimes thinking within the box is ok. Do you realize that in the scenario you have just posted, you could well be within the parameters of what they require you to send in as a submission?

JR, we have a piece of driftwood that looks exactly like a big barracuda. We painted teeth on it and it hangs guard over our tiki bar.

Set mine in JR. Good luck to us both.

Alright! I can't wait to read it. If it's like the rest of your writing, it is awesome. I don't see why that wouldn't count as "earth." I'm definitely intrigued.
